FIBA World Cup Quarterfinals: France stuns USA, advances to semifinals

Team USA suffered its first FIBA World Cup loss in 13 years as France upset the Americans 89-79. Jazz center Rudy Gobert had a double-double with 21 points and 16 rebounds while Magic guard Evan Fournier added 22 points. Donovan Mitchell was the only one getting things going for USA finishing with a tournament-best 29 points. USA led by 3 points going into the fourth quarter, but France went on a late run outscoring them 18-3 to close out the game. France will play Argentina on Friday.

In the other quarterfinal game, Australia beat the Czech Republic 82-70 to advance to the semifinals. The Aussies have won 6 in a row with Spurs guard Patty Mills (22 ppg) leading the way. Mills finished with 24 points in the win while Andrew Bogut had 10 points, all in the second half. Australia will face Argentina in the semifinals on Friday.
