Fernando Tatis Jr. hits 2 homers on anniversary of father's 2 grand slams in 1 inning

Once upon a time, a baseball player named Fernando Tatis hit two grand slams in one inning at Dodger Stadium.

Twenty-two years later to the day, a baseball player named Fernando Tatis Jr. hit two home runs at Dodger Stadium.

The younger Tatis, currently starring for the San Diego Padres, hit his third and fourth homers of the season on Friday off Clayton Kershaw. The first came in the third inning:

Tatis' father entered the history books on April 23, 1999, when he hit two grand slams off Chan Ho Park. The feat has never since been equaled. Funnily enough, the younger Tatis' homers landed not far from where his father's landed, both in left field with one in center-left and one closer to the foul pole.

According to MLB.com's Sarah Langs, the two homers on Friday were 113.4 mph and 115.9 mph off the bat, the two hardest-hit homers of Tatis' career. The shortstop went 3-for-5 on the night, adding an RBI single in the ninth inning. That was enough to push his batting average past the Mendoza line, with him currently slashing .208/.296/.479.

The Padres eventually won 6-1, improving their record to 12-10.
