Incumbent Mitch Colvin and newcomer Freddie de la Cruz have unofficially won the primary election for mayor of Fayetteville.

Colvin received 64.52% of all votes, de la Cruz 13.91%, Franco Webb 8.34%, J. Antoine Miner 5.88%, Clifton Johnson 5.58% and Nyrell Melvin (who dropped out in March) 1.76%, according to unofficial results from the North Carolina State Board of Elections Tuesday night.

Colvin thanked the voters for what he called a "vote of confidence" after two mayoral terms. "It confirms that the direction the city is going is the right direction," he said.

When reached by telephone, de la Cruz, a veteran and business owner, said he would prefer to talk in person.

Colvin and de la Cruz will proceed to the July 26 general election for the mayoral seat.
