Fayetteville area weather related closings, delays and cancellations

The National Weather Service placed the Fayetteville area under a winter weather advisory from 7 p.m. Thursday through 7 a.m. Saturday ahead of a sprawling winter storm that will deliver a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain through Saturday.

With inclement weather expected Friday and Saturday, some businesses, schools and organizations have announced closings, cancellations and other changes to schedules. To submit closings, cancellations or delays to The Fayetteville Observer, send an email to news@fayobserver.com.

This list will be updated as new information comes in. Here are the latest closings:

Schools

Cumberland County Schools will release students and employees two hours early Thursday. Friday will be a remote learning day for all students to independently work on assignments.

All athletic events and after-school activities are canceled for Thursday and Friday. The district’s after-school care, Prime Time, will operate for two hours after the dismissal of students Thursday and be closed Friday.

Methodist University will close most offices and move in-person classes to remote learning. The Green & Gold Dining Hall will be open for students.

Fayetteville Technical Community College will operate remotely Friday with classes moving to remote learning. Saturday classes are canceled. FTCC will operate on a regular schedule Thursday.

Bladen Community College's physical campus in Dublin will be closed Friday through Sunday.

Clinton City Schools will operate remotely Friday.

Bladen County Schools will be closed for students and staff Friday, and the district will transition to remote learning.

Hoke County Schools will operate remotely Friday.

Robeson Community College will be closed Friday through Sunday, with classes being held remotely instead.

Lee County Schools will be closed for students and staff Friday.

Moore County Schools will be closed for all students Friday, including virtual learning. All after-school activities are canceled Thursday.

• Friday is a teacher workday for Harnett County Schools. There is no school for students.

Government offices

• Cumberland County government offices and the court system will be closed Friday. This includes the Health Department's COVID-19 testing sites, the Cumberland County landfill and container sites, all library locations and Animal Services. Anyone scheduled for court Friday is asked to call the Clerk of Court's Office or check the website for updates. Friday solid waste collection will move to Monday, Monday will move to Tuesday and Tuesday will move to Wednesday. Bus and FASTTRAC services will not operate Friday. Services will resume at noon Saturday.

Hope Mills town offices will be closed Friday, with all non-emergency personnel asked to stay home.

Sampson County Offices will be closed Friday.

Harnett County government offices will operate on a two-hour delay Friday.

Medical/hospital

• The drive-thru COVID-19 testing site at Cape Fear Valley Health Pavilion North will close at noon Thursday. It will be closed Friday.

• All Cape Fear Valley Health outpatient facilities will be closed Friday. This includes all primary and specialty care clinics; cancer centers; cardiac rehab; community mental health; Health Pavilion North; HealthPlex; outpatient pharmacies; outpatient therapy; and sleep labs. Exceptions: Highsmith-Rainey ExpressCare will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m,; Bladen ExpressCare will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Valley Pharmacy will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Events

The Fayetteville Symphony Orchestra's "Too Hot to Hande" concert scheduled for Friday has been postponed to a yet-to-be-determined date.

Shelter

• People in need of shelter can go to the Salvation Army at 245 Alexander St. starting at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. A daytime warming station is also scheduled for Friday between breakfast and dinner. All services offered on a first come, first served basis.
