On Sunday afternoon, the Milwaukee Brewers slouch into Turner Field to face Tommy Hanson(notes) and the forces of righteousness. It's the most highly anticipated major league debut since...hmm, let's see...maybe since last Friday.
It's clearly an occasion that demands a prediction contest. The rules here are similar to the Wieters event: In comments, give us your projection for Hanson's fantasy line against the Brewers. The person closest to the actual retail price of the showcase without going over is our winner. You'll need to post your prediction before the opening pitch. First place gets you in the midseason commenter league. Second place wins an ocelot. Ivan R and his family members are not eligible for either prize, but they're free to guess.
Facts to consider:
• Hanson posted a 1.49 ERA for Triple-A Gwinnett this year, holding opposing hitters to a .169 AVG. He also had 90 Ks and only 17 walks in 66.1 innings.
• At 22, he won the pitching triple crown in the Arizona Fall League (5-0, 0.63 ERA, 49 Ks in 28.2 IP) on his way to the MVP award.
• Hanson threw a 14-strikeout no-hitter at Double-A Mississippi in June, 2008.
• Milwaukee is currently the fifth highest-scoring team in the N.L. The Brewers are also fourth in total strikeouts and second in home runs.
Here's the official blog guess for Hanson's debut: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 6 Ks, no decision.
As they say at MDC, now it's your turn...
