LIZ LOZA: Does Sam Darnold offer untapped potential? Maybe. Probably. Sure. Sure.

Should fantasy managers chase that? Nah. Not heading into 2020.

I mean, let's not forget that Sam Darnold is a player who ended 2019 bottom five in protection rate and supporting cast efficiency. Now, it's also worth mentioning that Joe Douglas last summer, when he became the Jets GM, made a promise to both Darnold and Darnold's parents that he was going to give him protection and playmakers. In Douglas's defense, he did spend this free agency period, as well as the 2020 NFL draft, attacking the protection portion of that promise, but the playmakers?

I mean, the 2020 NFL class was wildly deep at the wide receiver position, and the Jets added one receiver. And I love Denzel Mims. I think he's a gr-- I was higher on him than most. But I don't think that that's enough.

I don't think that Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman and maybe Chris Herndon and maybe Denzel Mims in an abbreviated offseason is going to get Sam Darnold what he needs to do anything fantasy-wise inside of the top 20 producers at the position. He's my QB 23.
