Fans must be patient with new Enugu Rangers - Owumi

The Flying Antelopes’ top official has charged the fans of the club to exercise some calm as they strive to rebuild the club

Davidson Owumi has called on Enugu Rangers fans to exercise patience with their relatively new squad as they resume hostilities in the 2017-18 season with Sunday's tie Akwa United.

The Flying Antelopes brought in a new technical crew led by Gbenga Ogunbote and a handful of new players, headlined by striker Abu Azeez. And the general manager of the former league champions made an appeal to their supporters, while also charging the new setup ahead of the upcoming campaign.

“We are doing everything to ensure that Rangers return to the name it is known for. It is no automatic as it is going to take time. We have just brought in new technical crew and management and some of the players are equally new. We will need the fans and supporters’ understanding,” Owumi told Goal.

"We want our loyal fans to keep on supporting us even when things do not go as expected. We will try to start the season with a bang but whatever happens; we will need our fans’ support at all times.

“I want to advise the new players too, to concentrate on what has led them to here. We need them to be at their peak at all times to ensure that we do not struggle this season.”

The newly signed players are Godwin Zaki (from Abia Warriors), Isaac Loute (FC Ifeanyiubah), Jonathan Richard (Wikki Tourists), Solomon Okpako (Enyimba),  Femi Thomas (Rivers United), James Aiyeyemi (MFM), Yusuf Ibrahim (Nasarawa United), Shedrack Francis (Rivers United), Tayo Fabiyi (Nasarawa United), Ugonna Anyora (Assyriska FF, Sweden), Chigozie Christopher (Lobi Stars), Semiu Liadi (Enyimba), Ajani Ibrahim, Salau Ibrahim and Azeez (Shooting Stars), Onyedika Ogbuke, Ayogueke Chukwuemeka and Kingsley Iwuji.

Rangers will start their NPFL season with a tough away tie against Federation Cup champions Akwa United in Uyo.
