Fallsburg man sentenced to life in prison for murder of girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter
MONTICELLO - A Fallsburg man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for the murder of his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter this past January.
Sullivan County Court Judge Jim Farrell's sentence stipulated Brian Owsinski, 26, of Fallsburg, cannot be paroled before serving at least 20 years of his sentence, according to a statement from the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.
Owsinski pleaded guilty in September to second-degree murder, a felony, for the killing of 2-year-old Amara Campbell at the Thunderbird Trailer Park in Woodbourne on Jan. 25, 2022.

Sullivan District Attorney Meagan Galligan said the girl's mother called 911 around 4:45 p.m. that day and reported that the child was unresponsive.
Fallsburg town police, state police, Mobile Medic, Woodbourne EMS and other first responders went to the scene. The girl was taken to Garnet Catskills Medical Center in Harris, where she was pronounced dead. An autopsy showed clear evidence of fatal internal bleeding, Galligan said in the statement.
Galligan said Owsinski admitted he was alone with the child at the time he inflicted the lethal blows. She said Owsinski pleaded guilty to her murder just before jury selection in his trial was scheduled to begin in September and he admitted "that he acted with depraved indifference to her life by striking her at least twice in the stomach, causing severe injuries that resulted in her death.
"The agony this child endured will echo throughout the lives of those who loved her and remember her every day," Galligan said.
Joel M. Proyect, president of the Sullivan County Conflict Legal Aid Bureau, which represented Owsinski, declined to make a comment.
