Falcons honor late ESPN reporter Vaughn McClure at his press box seat
The Atlanta Falcons have found the perfect way to pay tribute to Vaughn McClure, the ESPN Falcons reporter who died unexpectedly in mid-October.
The team tweeted on Sunday morning that they would keep open McClure’s seat in the press box of Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the remainder of the season. The seat will remain empty and won’t be filled by another reporter, and is currently occupied by a photo of McClure, his weekly press credential and some fresh flowers.
A passion for his craft and the relationships that he held.

The Minnesota Vikings paid tribute to McClure last week when the Falcons came to town for their first game since McClure’s death.

McClure, 48, worked for ESPN since 2013 and covered the Falcons’ run to the Super Bowl in the 2016 season. He previously worked for the Chicago Tribune covering the Bears and Bulls from 2009-2013. McClure was beloved by his colleagues and the players he wrote about, and tributes poured in after news of his death became public.
A cause of death has not been reported.
