The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of trying to improve their roster in order to properly contend for a championship in the 2022-23 season. They have made a few moves in order to improve their wing depth, but they could still use a backup center option.

At the moment, the Sixers have Paul Reed and Charles Bassey who can come in and give Joel Embiid a break, but Philadelphia could definitely use another option. Both Reed and Bassey are still young and they need more time to develop while the Sixers have visions of the Larry O’Brien trophy in their heads.

A mock trade from Bleacher Report has the Sixers moving Shake Milton to the Minnesota Timberwolves in a deal to acquire a big man.

Fake trade proposal

Sixers receive: Naz Reid

Timberwolves receive: Shake Milton

B/R on the deal

After tabbing Rudy Gobert to plug any and all defensive looks, Minnesota might be in the market for a pinch more perimeter offense.

Milton could be an intriguing option at the right price.

Statistically speaking, he’s a roller coaster of offensive outbursts, nearly silent stretches and everything in between. As a deep reserve, though, he could give Minnesota a quick barrage of buckets on his hot nights and stay tethered to the bench on his cold ones.

Analyzing the deal from a Sixers standpoint

Bringing in a guy like Naz Reid would be a win-now move for the Sixers. He is physical, he averaged 8.3 points and 3.9 rebounds off the bench for Minnesota, and he can knock down the 3-ball at 34.3% for his career. He is somebody the Sixers would be able to lean on and he would be good insurance if Reed truly isn’t ready to go to be the regular backup.

As far as moving Milton, Philadelphia can afford it after acquiring De’Anthony Melton and Danuel House Jr. At this point, the Sixers should continue to build up the bench unit and make it something that coach Doc Rivers can continue to rely on every single night.
