Most people go to the gym to work out their bodies, but do you ever work out your face? If not, then it’s time to get to know FaceGym.

According to the brand’s website, “FaceGym is the first of its kind and a unique facial fitness experience. Think of us as a complete gym workout for your face. We combine powerful kneading movements with innovative tools, cutting-edge technology, and performance skincare to tone and tighten the 40+ forgotten muscles of the face.” Sounds pretty cool, right?

What is a FaceGym workout really like?

I visited the FaceGym studio on Bond Street in New York earlier this month for a facial workout with one of the studio’s trainers. I opted for the Clean & Lift treatment, which is essentially the brand’s signature workout kicked up a notch with detox water and a vitamin infusion.

My trainer walked me through each part of the 50-minute workout and explained what he was doing and why every step of the way. From cleansing my skin to using a mini yoga ball on the high points of my face to relax muscles and then using a (painless) slapping motion on my face during the cardio portion, it was really fun to try out different facial techniques that I’d never been exposed to before at a traditional facial.

After those initial steps, my trainer used a microcurrent tool on my face, which can be thought of as the weight lifting portion of a workout. He then finished off my treatment with the brand’s exclusive Skin IV technology. The Skin IV portion is when the trainer sprays a custom mix of cold pressured oxygen, detox water and vitamins onto your skin. It’s very chilly, but feels like a refreshing ice bath for your face!

One of the main things that I loved about my experience was that, since the treatment is non-invasive, there’s no downtime, and you leave the studio looking glowy and fresh instead of red and splotchy. I walked out of the studio and into a dinner with friends feeling great.

Also, before I left the studio, my trainer gave me a brochure that walked me through what we had done that day, a list of online FaceGym classes to check out in between IRL appointments and a few face exercises that anyone can do at home.

Keep reading to check out those effective at-home exercises and shop a few of the brand’s best-selling products.

FaceGym exercises to try at home:

  1. Eye Squints: “Place your index fingers on the outer corners of your eyes and let your middle fingers rest on the inner side of both eyes. Look up at the ceiling and squint for at least ten seconds then, relax your eyes and look down. Repeat for three reps.”

  2. Cheek Burpees: “Place one hand over one cheek. Blow out the opposite cheek short and fast for a least 10 counts. Repeat for three reps.”

  3. Jaw Definer: “Tilt your head back and pout to the sky, slightly sticking out lower jaw. Placing hands lightly on your clavicle. Hold for up to five seconds. Repeat for three reps.”

  4. Face Toner: “Place your fingertips along your collarbone, tilt your head back and expressively say the letter E repeatedly ten times and relax. Repeat for three reps.”
