Unbeaten Young Bulls host FC Nantes

It will be a case of all or nothing this Wednesday 28 February 2024 when our Young Bulls host FC Nantes at our academy at 15:00 CET in the UEFA Youth League last 16.

Onur Cinel's crew shone last autumn in Europe's biggest youth competition with an undefeated group stage campaign. Our U19 side left their counterparts from Inter Milan, Benfica and Real Sociedad well behind them.

FC Nantes will certainly provide a stern test as back-to-back champions of France's Championnat National U19, although their route into the last 16 has been a vert nervy one. After two legs in the champions' path against Lech Poznan and HJK Helsinki, a penalty shoot-out was needed both times, while their play-off against FC Sevilla was also decided from the spot.

As is usual at this stage of the UEFA Youth League, there is only one leg, so a quarter-final spot will definitely be claimed in Salzburg on Wednesday. Over the past few years, we have always had away draws at this stage of the competition, with our Young Bulls last at home in a last 16 on 4 March 2020 with a 4-1 win over Derby County. There is huge excitement in our academy at the prospect of our boys contesting such a big clash in front of their own fans!

The game against the U19 side of FC Nantes will also be broadcast on a free live stream on and the FC RBS App.

We are expecting to face really strong opponents, who have more than deserved their spot in the last 16 thanks to their good performances. The fact that we are playing at home is something we are really looking forward to. Our aim is to build on the good performances in the autumn with an unbeaten group stage. We will do everything we can to get a win and get among the best eight teams in Europe!

Potential quarter-final also at home

UEFA has already drawn the next round of Europe's biggest U19 competition. Should Salzburg make it into the last eight, they will face a quarter-final on 12 or 13 March 2024 against the winners of the clash between FC Copenhagen and MSK Zilina. The final four tournament will be played from 19 to 22 April 2024 in Nyon, Switzerland.
