Tacko Fall earns two-way contract with Cavs after solid preseason originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Former Boston Celtics fan favorite Tacko Fall has some job security with his new club.

The Cleveland Cavaliers have converted Fall's contract to a two-way deal for the 2021-22 season, the team announced Saturday.

The Cavs waived three players -- Justin James, Kyle Guy and Mitch Ballock -- while inking Fall and R.J. Nembhard to two-way deals. That means Fall showed enough in training camp and the preseason to carve out a roster spot.

Why Grant Williams was benched in C's preseason finale

The 7-foot-6 big man put up solid numbers in limited minutes this preseason, averaging 5.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.7 blocks over 11.8 minutes per game in three contests. Much like his playing stints in Boston, Fall was a spark plug on both ends of the floor for Cleveland.

The Cavs have a crowded frontcourt led by Jarrett Allen, Kevin Love, No. 2 overall pick Evan Mobley and newcomer Lauri Markkanen, so Fall likely will spend most of the 2021-22 season with the G-League Cleveland Charge.

If he's on Cleveland's roster for any of the team's three matchups with Boston this season, though -- in Cleveland on Nov. 13 and Nov. 15; in Boston on Dec. 22 -- expect some warm welcomes from his fellow teammates and fans.

Fall spent his first two seasons with the Celtics, appearing in 26 games while averaging 2.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.9 blocks over 6.5 minutes.
