Everything LSU fans need to know after a hectic sports weekend
This weekend was the busiest 2023 has offered LSU fans thus far.
Both basketball teams were in action, with the women’s team competing in the SEC Tournament. The diamond was busy, too, with both baseball and softball having jam-packed schedules.
On Friday night, gymnastics hosted three teams in the Baton Rouge River Center, including a couple of top-25 squads.
There was football buzz, too. Former LSU players traveled to Indianapolis for the combine and future LSU players arrived in Baton Rouge for a busy weekend of recruiting.

LSU baseball spots 26 runs on Saturday

The LSU hitters put on a show this weekend, headlined by a 26-run explosion on Saturday.
[autotag]Paxton Kling[/autotag], [autotag]Tommy White[/autotag] and [autotag]Tre Morgan[/autotag] all had three hits. White homered twice and led LSU with 5 RBI. [autotag]Gavin Dugas[/autotag] and [autotag]Cade Beloso[/autotag] also found the stands.
The 26-run performance was sandwiched in between a 12-run Friday night and 13 more on Sunday afternoon, making it a 51-run weekend at Alex Box Stadium.
LSU faces Butler on Monday night and Lamar on Wednesday before a weekend series with Samford.

One of the recruits on hand over the weekend was Jelani Watkins, a four-star wide receiver from Texas.
LSU must have made a strong impression. 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong entered a Crystal Ball prediction for LSU and the Tigers now lead in On3’s prediction machine too.
Watkins recently earned an offer to run track at LSU too.
LSU signed a strong group of receivers last cycle and already has one committed in 2024, but the addition of Watkins, who’s ranked a top 100 overall player by 247 and ESPN, would be huge.
Gymnastics comes out on top in River Center

Jay Clark’s group notched a win on Friday night at the Podium Challenge. The Tigers faced stiff competition with No. 7 California and No. 23 Washington in town along with George Washington.
“I’ve been doing this 33 years and I don’t know if I’ve seen a year that’s had as much adversity as this one,” Clark said in a release following the match.
Highlights of the night included [autotag]Haleigh Bryant[/autotag] winning the all-around and [autotag]Chase Brock[/autotag] winning the vault title.

LSU bolstered its 2024 recruiting class over the weekend. It began with four-star LB [autotag]Kolaj Cobbins[/autotag], one of the best Louisiana recruits of the cycle.
The Tigers pulled off a flip of [autotag]Ahmad Breaux[/autotag] after he previously committed to Duke. Breaux is a three-star DE from Ruston, Louisiana.

McMahon finishes first regular season

Men’s basketball closed out a rough regular season with a 79-67 loss to Florida. [autotag]KJ Williams[/autotag] led LSU with 19 points, and [autotag]Derek Fountain[/autotag] led the team with 12 rebounds.
The Tigers finished with just two wins in conference play but still have the SEC Tournament ahead.
Women's basketball loses conference semi-final

With a chance to earn a No. 1 seed, Kim Mulkey’s group fell short in the conference tournament.
The Tigers picked up a win over Georgia on Friday but lost in the semifinal to Tennessee.
In the win, [autotag]Alexis Morris[/autotag] had a game-high 28 points. She followed it up with 20 more points in the loss. [autotag]Angel Reese[/autotag] notched her 28th double-double over the weekend.

The loss doesn’t take away from LSU’s regular season, which was the best in some time for the program. LSU finished with just two losses and is expected to sit on the two-seed line in the NCAA Tournament.
Softball has undefeated weekend

LSU softball continued its hot start. Beginning with a shutout of Michigan, LSU went 5-0 this weekend. The Tigers’ 20-1 record is the best mark in the SEC.
