Evan Longoria spells out story behind incredible blonde mohawk hairstyle

Longoria explains story behind incredible blonde mohawk originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Evan Longoria was the best player on the field during the Giants' 9-8 extra-inning win over the Colorado Rockies on Sunday.

He arguably also has the best haircut.

When the umpires reversed the call on the game's final play to rule that Longoria's clutch tag on Rockies outfielder Sam Hilliard was in time, the Giants' third baseman broke into a big smile and took off his hat to celebrate.

There it was again -- the blonde mohawk he's been sporting this summer.

When did the Giants' infielder get the mohawk treatment at the barbershop?

"We were on that big losing streak about a month-and-a-half ago, and I said, 'If we win this game, I will dye my hair into a blonde mohawk,' " Longoria said on "Summer Sunday" to NBC Sports Bay Area's Anthony Garcia, Therese Viñal and Carmen Kiew.

"We came back and won the game late. It was a good win, so I was just being a man of my word."

The game Longoria likely is referring to is the Giants' 7-5 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 6.

San Francisco was riding a six-game skid at the time and entered the eighth inning trailing the Diamondbacks 4-2.

But in that eighth frame, former Giants slugger Darin Ruf mashed a two-run homer to tie the game, and the team added three runs in the ninth to win 7-5.

Longoria was at his best at Coors Field on Sunday, collecting three hits -- including his fourth career grand slam -- and raised eyebrows with his defense at the hot corner.

But as long as he keeps that mohawk, the 36-year-old will continue to turn heads.
