Euro 2020 betting: The money keeps pouring in on France to win
France is becoming an even more popular pick to win Euro 2020.
The defending World Cup champions are the favorites to win the tournament, thanks to their solid defense, great midfield, and wealth of attacking options. France is the best all-around team in the tournament and bettors have clearly realized that.
France’s odds have dropped from +550 to +400 since BetMGM started taking bets on Euro 2020. A quarter of the wagers on teams to win the tournament are on France and nearly 42% of the handle — the total money wagered on teams to win the tournament — are on the favorites.
Just nine days ago, 25% of the money wagered on the tournament was on France. That’s a significant increase, especially in such a short timeframe.
No other team has been bet more than 12.2%. Italy is the second-most wagered team and the Italians’ odds have dropped from +1200 to +700. England is the third-most wagered team at 11.5%.
England has the second-most money bet on it. More than 16% of the handle is on the Three Lions despite the questions that continue to surround the defense.
Germany to miss the knockout rounds?
The most popular prop bet at BetMGM is on Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku to be the tournament’s top scorer. Lukaku (+600) is the No. 2 favorite for top scorer behind England’s Harry Kane.
The second-most popular prop bet may surprise you. France, Germany and defending Euro champ Portugal are all in the same group. That Group of Death combined with Germany’s relatively poor recent form means the Germans are getting picked by some to be one of the first eight teams eliminated.
Germany is +600 to be knocked out of the tournament in the group state. Meanwhile, the Germans are +800 to win the entire tournament or +800 to finish second. They’re potentially the most boom-or-bust team in the tournament.
