The Florida Legislature is gearing up for its 2023 session and a weeklong special session on property insurance later this month.

As part of the preparation, Escambia and Santa Rosa counties' local legislative delegations are set to hold public hearings this week.

Santa Rosa County's legislative delegation, which consists of Sen. Doug Broxson, R-Gulf Breeze; Rep. Alex Andrade, R-Pensacola; and newly elected Rep. Paul Rudman, R-Navarre, is set to meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Gulf Breeze Community Center at 800 Shoreline Drive.

Escambia County's legislative delegation, which includes Broxson, Andrade and Rep. Michelle Salzman, R-Pensacola, is set to meet Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Pensacola State College Amos Performance Studio at 1000 College Blvd.

Legislators will hear from local government leaders and organizations about legislative requests for the upcoming year.

Escambia County voted last week on three legislative priorities that were funding the Florida Department of Transportation work plan, which includes the planned Interstate-10 exit in Beulah, requesting $2.5 million to fund a sewage lift station for former Outlying Field 8 in Beulah and reform of residential property insurance.

Pensacola Mayor D.C. Reeves said at his first press conference was exploring ways to ask the Legislature to aid in bringing more attainable housing to Pensacola and bring funding for coastal resiliency projects such as restoring Carpenter Creek.

The special session on property insurance is set to run from Dec. 12 to Dec. 16, while the regular 2023 session is set to begin on March 7 and end on May 5, with interim committee meetings set to begin in December and run up until the start of the regular session.
