The third year of the Mac Jones era in Foxboro is upon us.

Preparation for the 2023 NFL season kicks off Wednesday morning when the New England Patriots open up training camp at Gillette Stadium.

The Patriots will conduct their first training session in front of fans on the practice fields behind the stadium beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Rookies reported to Foxoboro for camp earlier this month and veterans arrived on Tuesday.

The Patriots haven’t had much to smile about of late, finishing the last two seasons outside of the postseason but special teams captain Matthew Slater said the team is hopeful that the start of camp will serve as a rebirth.

Coach Bill Belichick confirmed that defensive back Jack Jones will be on the field after pleading not guilty to nine counts of weapons violations in connection with his arrest last month at Boston’s Logan Airport security checkpoint with two loaded guns in his carry-on bag.

A number of new faces are in the fold this season including offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, and tight end Mike Gesicki. First-round pick and cornerback Christian Gonzalez is also expected to bolster the defense.

The first week of summer practice features four sessions that will be open to fans:

  • Wednesday, July 26: Gates open at 8 a.m., and practice is held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • Thursday, July 27: Gates open at 8 a.m., and practice is held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • Friday, July 28: Gates open at 8 a.m., and practice is held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

  • Saturday, July 30: Practice time TBD

This year marks the 63rd annual training camp for the Patriots, including their 21st consecutive camp at Gillette Stadium.

Parking and admission is free and the usual clear-bag policy that is enforced at the stadium gates for games will not be in effect.

Fans who plan to attend practices are encouraged to check the Patriots website or app for daily updates. Fans can also call the training camp hotline for updates at 508-549-0001.

Later this summer, the Patriots will hold joint practice sessions at Green Bay on Aug. 16 and 17 prior to their preseason game at Lambeau Field and at Tennessee on Aug. 22 and 23 prior to their preseason finale against the Titans.
