Emily Killion hired as new Joplin volleyball coach

Mar. 13—Emily Killion has been hired as the new head coach for the Joplin High School volleyball program.

Killion comes from the McDonald County School District, where she served as a special education teacher at McDonald County High School and the assistant coach for the district's volleyball and softball teams.

She has experience as a college softball and volleyball athlete and also reached All-State designations in both volleyball and softball as a high school athlete.

"I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity and to be a part of the Joplin Eagles community," Killion said in a statement. "I am excited to meet the girls and get going this summer in preparation for a great fall season. I look forward to seeing what we can accomplish together and I can't wait to hit the ground running."

Killion succeeds Staci Saunders, who served as interim head coach during the 2023-24 season.

Matt Hiatt, athletic director, said in a statement: "Emily is very passionate about serving kids in a way that helps them reach their goals. She will do a great job leading our volleyball program into the future. We cannot wait for her to get started working with our student-athletes."
