El Paso police shoot pit bull after 2 dogs attack, bite 2 people in far East Side
A pair of pit bulls bit at least two people before an El Paso police officer shot and mortally wounded one of the dogs Sunday afternoon in a far East Side neighborhood, police said.
The dog that was shot was not expected to survive. The shooting is under investigation, as is standard procedure with all officer-involved shootings, according to a police media statement.
Two people who were bitten went to the hospital on their own and were being treated for minor injuries, police said.

The incident started about 1 p.m. when several 911 calls were made regarding two pit bulls that had bitten at least two people in the 12400 block of Tierra Limon Drive, located off Tierra Este Road, police said.
When the initial calls were made, there were no patrol units available to respond until 1:54 p.m., when an officer became available and arrived at the scene a few minutes later, police said.

Police said that the officer shot one of the dogs that was being aggressive toward people. The wounded dog was taken away by Animal Control and was not expected to survive. The second dog, which was not injured, also was seized by Animal Control officers.
The case is under investigation.
