Eight Ohio State players to miss spring practice

It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, but that ended on Wednesday when he stepped to the podium on national signing day (ho-hum) to provide an offseason update.

The topics and questions were wide-ranging but with spring ball just around the corner, Day did touch on what’s in store for the Buckeyes as they prepare to kick off spring practice on March 7, with the annual LiFESports Spring Game taking place on April 15.

And on that note, it appears as though Ohio State will be without at least eight veteran players for the spring. On Thursday, Day said that Emeka Egbuka, Tommy Eichenberg, Julian Fleming, TreVeyon Henderson, Jakob James, Mitchell Melton, Evan Pryor, and Kourt Williams will all miss the spring, all recovering from various procedures they’ve had done recently.

“These guys have had just some long-term surgeries,” Day said. “We’ll have them ready after the spring, but are just going to be careful with them.”

It just goes to show you how taxing the game of big-time college football can be. We knew about Henderson and Pryor, as well as some other bumps and bruises over the course of the year, but clearly, a lot of the guys that played a very important role for the Buckeyes were more than hobbled coming down the stretch.

Here’s to hoping each has a speedy recovery and can come back better than ever this fall.
