Borussia Dortmund will play their first home game of the year on Sunday: VfL Bochum will be the visitors to SIGNAL IDUNA PARK at 17:30 CET.

BVB will finally be on home turf again in their third competitive match of 2024. The powers-that-be had previously scheduled two away games for the Black & Yellows: first in Darmstadt and then in Cologne. The team came out on top in both matches, meaning that they have started with a maximum points haul of six and a 7-0 goal tally. BVB (33) have also made up six points on third-placed Stuttgart (34 points) and fourth-placed Leipzig (33). "We know that we have taken two good steps and that we've made a successful start to the year. But we need to follow it up by taking further steps, the next one awaits us on Sunday. That's the only thing that counts," said BVB coach Edin Terzic. "We want to keep playing good football and picking up results. Then we can put the competition under pressure, but that's down to us alone." Emre Can and Mats Hummels are closing in on a return to the squad, while there are still question marks hanging over Gregor Kobel and Julian Brandt.

If you include the cup tie, BVB's last three games against Bochum have all been away from home (one victory, two draws). The last home game to date against their Ruhr neighbours took place in November 2022. The Black & Yellows won 3-0 that day thanks to goals from Moukoko (two) and Reyna. There have been 65 meetings between the teams in total, of which BVB have won 25.

While BVB have so far been on the road this year, Bochum have only played at home. VfL played out a 1-1 draw with Werder Bremen in their first competitive match of the year, before beating VfB Stuttgart 1-0. Bochum occupy 14th place in the table with 20 points, meaning they have a nine-point cushion over the relegation play-off place. "They play very passionately and aggressively. They contest the most challenges in the league, foul frequently and try to use that to disrupt the opposition's rhythm," said Terzic, reflecting on his opposition analysis. "We're aware of the opposition's qualities and capabilities. Nonetheless, we also know that it is in our hands to come off the pitch as winners with a good performance."

It would be the third victory in three games this year.
