Edgewater, Lake Mary, Seminole hold firm atop Super 16 rankings

Lake Mary coach Scott Perry raved about the Rams all-around effort on offense, defense and special teams following Friday’s 49-21 district win at Apopka.

“It’s all been growing together, all three phases of it,” Perry said of his team.

The undefeated Rams (8-0), No. 2 in the Sentinel Super 16 rankings, play Friday at No. 3 Sanford Seminole (7-2) for the Class 4 Metro District 2 championship.

No matter the result of that Week 10 outing, recent history suggests it’s merely a preamble for what’s to come next month as Lake Mary, Seminole and Apopka are each expected to return to the 4M Region 1 playoffs.

“The reality is, if we make the playoffs we’re either going to see Seminole or Apopka again,” Perry said with a grin.

Apopka (5-3), which dropped four spots to No. 10, plays Thursday at No. 14 Ocoee (4-5). The Knights returned to the rankings in place of Wekiva after winning 52-21 at Windermere High (3-6).

No. 6 Olympia (6-2) and No. 7 Winter Park (7-0) can wrap up district championships Thursday during a full night of Orange County games.

One exception to that OCPS schedule is No. 16 Bishop Moore (5-3) vs. Lake Buena Vista (4-3) on Friday for the District 4 title in Class 2M.

No. 1 Edgewater (9-0) is off this week ahead of next Friday’s season finale at longtime Orlando rival Boone (4-4).

The Super 16 consists of schools in Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Lake and southwest Volusia counties. Last week’s ranking and win-loss records are included in parentheses.
