Every now and then, the best players in the world remind you why they’re considered so.

Chelsea’s Eden Hazard did that on Monday, slaloming through a forest of West Ham United defenders to score one of the best goals you’ll see all season, if not ever in the Premier League.

Just watch:

“Astonishing. Absolutely amazing,” intoned hallowed broadcaster Martin Tyler. “But typical of the man.”

Hazard can be sensibly credited with leaving no less than six Hammers in the dust. First, he split the central midfield pairing of Mark Noble and Declan Rice like they weren’t even there. Then he moved right to escape the lunging challenge of Fabián Balbuena, and quickly cut back left to surprise Angelo Ogbonna.

Ryan Fredericks’ sliding challenge was a split-second late, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was frozen to his knees by the finish, and Aaron Cresswell couldn’t figure out what to do despite being within 10 yards of Hazard the final few moments of the run.

For comparison’s sake, Lionel Messi’s epic run from midfield to score against Getafe in 2007 was recently voted by fans as Barcelona’s best goal ever. Messi laid waste to six different Getafe players in that sequence.

Hazard added a second goal with a nice finish in the 90th minute, and on the strength of his performance, Chelsea won 2-0. On the strength of his season, the Blues are currently third in the Premier League table.

Hazard’s phenomenal. You just saw it with your own eyes.
