Eastlake names Marlee Webb as new girls basketball coach

Marlee Webb has been a proven winner as a high school girls basketball coach in El Paso in her time at Chapin and Franklin.

After three years at Vandegrift in the Leander Independent School District near Austin, which included a 20-win season during the 2021-22 campaign, Webb is returning to El Paso to coach at Eastlake High School where she will guide the program in District 1-6A.

"I'm really glad to be home in El Paso and be back in this community," Webb said. "Eastlake has a great community and has great people at the school. I'm really looking forward to coaching this group of kids."

Webb replaces Joi Woodard, who had success at the school, including a trip to the regional quarterfinals in 2015.

"I'm not afraid of hard work and not afraid to compete," Webb said. "I'll finish out the school year in Austin and once I'm back, we'll get to work. It's a tough District 1-6A we are in and I'm looking forward to it. I've always loved coaching El Paso kids, they play with a great deal of heart and passion."

Webb, who was a star basketball player at Hanks and graduated in 1992, has coached some of the city’s best basketball players, including Kristina Higgins, Laneah Bryan, Cierra Winters and Katia Gallegos. Higgins played for Baylor, Bryan played for New Mexico, Winters played at the Air Force Academy and Gallegos played at UTEP before transferring to Tulsa.

She coached Chapin and Franklin to regional quarterfinal appearances during her time with each school.
