East Greenwich defeats Barrington and advances to the Division II championship series in baseball

BASEBALL

Division II

Behind the solid pitching of starter Casey DeLorenzo, East Greenwich defeated Barrington, 7-2, and eliminated the Eagles from the D-II Pod II final. The Avengers advance to the best-of-three D-II finals next weekend at RIC. DeLorenzo went the distance, allowing only two runs on five hits with no walks and five strikeouts. The Avengers were led offensively by Ryan Fay, who was 2-for-4 with a walk, four RBI and a run scored, and Rob Brooks, who also went 2-for-4 and scored a run.

East Greenwich's Cade Thomas (18) led the celebration during a game last month; he had reason to do it again on Friday as the Avengers eliminated Barrington in their playoff game.
