Eagles start off State Swim prelims

Feb. 9—INDIANAPOLIS — The Zionsville girls swimming and diving team kicked off the state championships on Friday night in the prelims.

The Eagles entered with 13 swims on the day and qualified 11 for day 2.

The day started off well for the Eagles, with the medley relay team of Molly Simmons, Maddy Akin, Annabel Hermacinski and Maggie Hadley reaching the championship final after placing sixth in 1:45.60.

In the 200-freestyle, the Eagles will have two in the championship final, with Annabelle Swiney placing fourth in a time of 1:48.65 and Ava Metzger placing fifth in 1:48.86.

In the 200-IM, the Eagles will have two in the consolations. Simmons just missed out in placing ninth in 2:05.13, missing by .01 seconds. Maddy Akin placed 16th in 2:08.04.

In the 50-free, Hadley placed 25th in a time of 24.45.

In the 100-freestyle, Annabelle Swiney made it back in the championship final, placing sixth in 50.89.

Metzger placed fourth in the 500-free in 4:54.85 to earn a callback, with Kira Hunter placing 18th in 5:09.80.

The 200-free relay team of Allie Buroker, Maggie Hadley, Ava Metzger and Annabelle Swiney was fifth in 1:36.62.

Molly Simmons placed fourth in the backstroke in a time of 55.23. Akin made it back in the championship final of the breaststroke in seventh with a time of 1:03.59.

The 400-free relay team of Metzger, Hadley, Hailey Paulick and Swiney placed seventh in 3:28.97.

Arianna Stieber

Western Boone senior Arianna Stieber finished her historic WeBo career on Friday night. Stieber finished 26th in the IM in a time of 2:13.20 and 29th in the butterfly in a time of 1:00.31.
