Like several other NFL teams, the Eagles will close their offices on Friday as they observe Juneteenth, a source told NBC Sports Philadelphia.

The Eagles on Wednesday morning sent a team-wide email informing all employees that the NovaCare Complex offices will be closed on June 19 in observation of the holiday that marks the end of slavery in the United States.

In future years, the Eagles plan to participate in social justice community service events to commemorate the importance of the day.

The NFL league office has already announced it will close for Juneteenth and several teams, including the Lions, Broncos, Chiefs, Cowboys, Panthers and Redskins, have also decided to close in observance.

As a team, the Eagles have had open discussions about race in recent weeks in the wake of George Floyd's killing and nation-wide protests. The team used its virtual offseason meetings to give several players a platform to speak on their own experiences with racial inequality and racial injustice.

"Me, personally, just the first thing I want to do is listen, listen to my players, listen to the guys that have feelings, have strong beliefs, and I want to understand everything that I can," head coach Doug Pederson said on Tuesday. "A lot of it is personal, for me, just hearing from the players [and] understanding more and more about what these players go through on a daily basis and what the Black community, the African American community, go through on a daily basis. And we are seeing it more and more, not only with sports but obviously in our communities."

Juneteenth - or Emancipation Day -  is the celebration of June 19, 1865, when General Gordon Granger landed in Galveston, Texas, and proclaimed that the Civil War was over and slaves were free, essentially ending slavery in the United States.
