Oft-injured cornerback Sidney Jones was absent Thursday morning as the Eagles returned to padded practice after Wednesday's walkthrough.

Jones, a 2017 second-round pick, has been practicing with the second team behind starters Avonte Maddox and Darius Slay.

Jones was outside watching practice but didn't participate. There was no immediate word from the Eagles on his status.

Jones has never played more than five games in a row without getting hurt. He's only started and finished nine games as a pro. He's only played more than 10 defensive snaps in 16 games in an Eagles uniform. He didn't play a single defensive snap in the playoff game against Seattle in January.

"It's been a battle with my body," he said last October.

While Jones' roster spot is likely secure, his future with the Eagles is anything but. He's not signed beyond this year.

Edge rusher Josh Sweat (illness) was also missing from practice Thursday. With Derek Barnett also out, that left the Eagles with Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry, Shareef Miller, Joe Ostman, Genard Avery and Casey Toohill at defensive end, as well as non-roster invitee Matt Leo.  Barnett (week-to-week, ankle) and Javon Hargrave (multiple weeks, strained pec) remain out indefinitely, as does running back Miles Sanders (week-to-week, lower body).

Running back Boston Scott (lower body) and tight end Dallas Goedert (upper body) also missed a second day of practice Thursday.

Sanders, Scott and Goedert were all outside watching practice.

Pederson declined to provide any specifics about the injuries Thursday morning but didn't seem too worked up about them.

"I'm not concerned," Pederson said. "We do know that injuries are going to be a part, especially early in camp, with players, and we're starting to see that just a little bit, but I'm not concerned with these guys. My focus is getting the entire team ready to go for our opener and that's our focus."

Fletcher Cox, who was scheduled for a planned maintenance day Wednesday, actually had the day off Thursday.
