Eagles HC Doug Pederson reinforces his support for QB Carson Wentz amid calls for him to be benched

The 0-2-1 Eagles are struggling after three weeks of the 2020 NFL season and franchise quarterback Carson Wentz has contributed majorly to those struggles. As fans and analysts clamor for Wentz’s benching, Pederson made it clear that such a thing would not happen.

“No. You don’t go there. That’s a knee-jerk reaction,” Pederson told 94.1 WIP on Monday when asked what it would take to look at options at QB outside Wentz. “Carson’s our quarterback. We’re going to get it fixed. He is going to get it fixed.”

The Eagles 23-23 tie on Sunday left them sitting at 0-2-1 and the winless after three games for the first time since 1999 when Pederson was the starter and mentor for No. 2 overall pick, Donovan McNabb.

Wentz is 29-of-47 for 225 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions and his rushing touchdown late in regulation led to the game going to overtime. Wentz is currently tied for the most interceptions in the NFL with six through three games, 29th in completion percentage (59.8), and last in QB rating (63.9).

Wentz signed a massive extension last offseason and even if the Eagles wanted to move on from the 2016 No. 2 overall pick at seasons end, they’d have to deal with $59 million in dead cap space.
