Eagles add WR Wallace on one-year deal

The reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles signed former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Mike Wallace on Thursday, the team announced.

Per NFL Network, the deal will be for one year and $2.5 million with incentives.

The Eagles had a need for a deep threat after trading wideout Torrey Smith -- who makes $5 million in 2018 -- to the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason. Speedy 2017 fourth-round pick Mack Hollins was expected to take on a bigger role in Smith's absence, but that role will likely be smaller now with the addition of Wallace.

Wallace, 31, had 124 catches for 1,765 yards and eight touchdowns from 2016-17 with the Ravens, exceeding Smith's output over the last three seasons combined. A former third-round pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Wallace left Pittsburgh after four years and spent two seasons with the Miami Dolphins and one with the Minnesota Vikings before joining Baltimore on a two-year deal.

His addition comes after Philadelphia added Michael Bennett and Haloti Ngata to its defensive line during the first week of free agency, adding more talent to a roster that won it all last season despite losing its starting quarterback.

The team also restructured defensive end Chris Long's deal on Thursday, and the soon-to-be 33-year-old confirmed to Barstool Sports that he will return for an 11th NFL campaign after winning Super Bowl rings in each of the last two seasons.

The Eagles were down to about $3.5 million in cap space prior to the addition of Wallace, so some salary juggling will likely be necessary in the near future.
