Dwyane Wade jokes that wife Gabrielle Union is 'lying' about having a poster of her on his wall

Dwyane Wade is out to dispel a rumor.

The former three-time NBA champion, who is married to movie star Gabrielle Union, was asked on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert whether it was true that he had a poster of Union on his wall when he was in college.

“That is a lie,” Wade said. “So my wife is a bigger celebrity than me. And she gets to come on your show and other shows way more than I. So she planted this story. This is a planted story. This did not happen, people. She’s lying. Now, I had the magazine that she was on the cover of and it was probably under my pillow, but it wasn’t on the wall. How dare she say that?”

When Colbert jokingly pointed out that there was a difference, Wade laughed and said, "Yeah, don't disrespect me like that."

Wade was appearing on the show to promote a recently-released photographic memoir titled "Dwyane" and was also asked questions about meeting Michael Jordan.

Wade was a 13-time NBA all-star and an eight-time all-NBA selection and was also named a member of the NBA's 75th Anniversary Team. Wade played 16 seasons in the NBA, 15 of which came with the Miami Heat, where he won three NBA titles.

Wade has launched several different business ventures in his post-playing days and spoke to USA TODAY Sports about how to stay busy and fulfilled after he retired.

“I mastered basketball. I’m great at this. This is what I know. This is what I’ve been doing since I was 5 years old and now I’ve got to do something different," Wade told USA TODAY Sports' Jeff Zillgitt. "After feeling sorry for myself for six months, I got on the phone with my team and said, ‘I’m willing to work. I’m willing to learn.’ ”

In 1,054 career games, he averaged 22 points with 4.7 rebounds and 5.4 assists.
