DWU senior Seth Christiansen picked as GPAC pitcher of the week

Mar. 19—MITCHELL — Dakota Wesleyan University baseball senior Seth Christiansen was honored Tuesday as the Great Plains Athletic Conference's pitcher of the week, the conference announced.

Christiansen, a senior from Victor, Idaho, took a perfect game into the eighth inning of a scheduled seven-inning game that was scoreless into extras on March 16. He ended up going 9 2/3 innings with a career-high nine strikeouts in an eventual 1-0 loss at Northwestern.

His nine shutout innings made it 26 straight scoreless innings for the Tiger staff, which is a program record. For the season, he has a 1-2 record in four starts, 27 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched and a 4.33 earned-run average.

He also hit .435 on the week with seven runs batted in, four doubles, and one home run. Offensively, he is hitting .365 with a team-best 11 RBIs and a .370 on-base percentage, with five doubles, a triple and two home runs this season, leading the team with eight extra-base hits.

DWU, which was 8-12 overall entering Tuesday, will play road doubleheaders at Dordt (March 23) and Midland (March 24), followed by a single game at Augustana on March 26. The Tigers will play a four-game home series with Briar Cliff on March 28 and 30 to pick up the home schedule.
