Dwight Howard can't sit because of a lingering piriformis injury

Dwight Howard made his season debut Friday night during a 134-111 loss against the Oklahoma City Thunder, scoring 20 points in 23 minutes. Wizards fans, if you think Howard’s piriformis injury is a thing of the past, think again.

After Howard scored 13 points in nine minutes against the Thunder, he went to the bench area to lie on the floor. Most players would take a seat on the bench, but Howard’s lingering piriformis injury wouldn’t allow him to do so.

Candace Buckner of The Washington Post reported that Howard is still dealing with pain from his buttocks muscle and can’t sit down. Howard was diagnosed with the injury in October, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania. Because of that, Howard missed the first seven games of the season due to “gluteal soreness.”

But the 32-year-old big man is healthy enough to play, which is a great thing. When healthy, he is one of the most productive centers in the NBA. Let’s hope he can put this injury behind him and dominate for the Wizards. As of right now, the 1-7 Wizards need all the help they can get.
