Dustin Johnson withdrew from the upcoming CJ Cup with COVID-19. The PGA announced the news on Tuesday alongside a statement from Johnson.
New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas was listed as inactive ahead of his team's game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday, and thanks to some intrepid reporting from—you guessed it—Adam Schefter, we now know why. According to Schefter, Thomas had an "altercation with a teammate" during a recent practice, which resulted in his benching. Saints' WR Michael Thomas had an altercation with a teammate at practice this weekend, per league sources.
The Jimmy Garoppolo trade is among the most-scrutinized decisions under New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick. The man who rarely loses a trade seemed to do the San Francisco 49ers a favor by shipping off Garoppolo for a second-round pick. There were rumblings that the Cleveland Browns offered a much more sizable package, which begged the question as to why Belichick didn't take the best offer.
The Jets are trying to trade RB Le'Veon Bell, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano confirmed on Tuesday. Bell's frustration with his role on the team has been on public display, especially after liking tweets following the loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. The tweets referenced Bell's poor target share in the pass game, while a couple others suggested that he should be traded.
The Yankees' first order of business this offseason doesn't come in the form of free agent starting pitchers to pursue or figuring out what to do with Gary Sanchez. It actually starts with Zack Britton's contract situation. As the New York Post's George A. King III points out, Britton has a unique clause in his contract where the Yankees must pick up a $14 million option for the 2022 season when this year's World Series is finished.
Subscribe to the Yahoo Fantasy Football Forecast Another week, another devastating injury in the National Football League as Cowboys star Dak Prescott had his record-setting season cut short. Andy Behrens and Scott Pianowski have the players you need to target to replace the Dallas signal-caller. How do the Steelers keep finding these wide receivers?
Bauer is likely to win the National League Cy Young Award after posting a 1.73 ERA – the best among any starter in MLB this shortened season – with 100 strikeouts to 17 walks. Bauer is notorious for wanting one-year contracts (though he is open to a longer-term deal), as he believes his market value will increase as his production does each year. He signed one with the Cincinnati Reds at $17.5 million this past season, and that number will definitely be rising now.
Last Thursday night, Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady blew a gasket on center Ryan Jensen after a drive that eventually had Tampa Bay facing third and 5. Coach Bruce Arians has no problem with Brady giving the business to his teammates. Of course, Brady ultimately did something for which he should have been cussed out: He didn't know a key fourth down was fourth down.
Ranking the Top 25 free agents of the 2020 NBA offseason originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston The most unique offseason in NBA history is underway. The NBA officially wrapped up its 2019-20 campaign on Oct. 11 after the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals and may begin the following season in January 2021. That means free agency will take place in the fall and winter rather than the heat of summer.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has returned home, approximately 24 hours after he was taken from the field to the hospital following a compound fracture of his ankle. Dallas coach Mike McCarthy confirmed today that Prescott had successful surgery and was released from the hospital, and he is now recovering at home. Prescott appears to be done for the 2020 season, but Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones said the team still considers Prescott its quarterback of the future.
In the 17 seasons that Ben Roethlisberger has been the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers, former Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw had not spoken directly with him. As a longtime football analyst, Bradshaw has said all he needed to about Ben from behind the desk at FOX NFL or through the media. At times, the 4-time Super Bowl champ has been very critical of Roethlisberger.
One of the biggest criticisms around the NFL world that Washington head coach Ron Rivera was facing last week was the fact that he benched starting QB Dwayne Haskins after just four weeks of the 2020 season, ending his run at the man in charge with just 11 NFL starts under his belt. Many thought that this was way too soon, and Rivera should have given the second-year QB more time to prove himself as the guy going forward. For 11 weeks he was our starter,” Rivera said via NBC Sports Washington. “It's interesting because we went through training camp and gave him every rep with the [first team] in terms of trying to develop him and get him ready to go.
New Chicago Bulls coach Billy Donovan shook up his staff, letting assistants Karen Stack Umlauf, Dean Cooper, Nate Loenser and Roy Rogers go on Monday. A standout player for Northwestern in the early 1980s, Umlauf joined the Bulls as an entry-level ticket representative in 1985. Hall of Fame general manager Jerry Krause shifted her to the basketball operations department soon afterward and she became Chicago's first female assistant when she served as an associate coach at the 2018 summer league.
There were plenty of big winners last weekend. Martin Laird knocked in a 23-foot putt for birdie on the second playoff hole to win the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open on Sunday, netting a check of $1.26 million. Sei Young Kim didn't take her foot off the gas one bit on Sunday, winning her 11th LPGA victory and her first major in the KPMG Women's PGA Championship, which earned her $654K. • Tyrrell Hatton secured his first BMW PGA Championship title on Sunday, which is also his third Rolex Series win, and with that came a prize of $1.15 million.
QB Andy Dalton, Dallas Cowboys (3% rostered on Yahoo) If you had QB Dak Prescott on your fantasy football team, the player you should be targeting on the waiver wire to replace him is Dalton. Prescott's gruesome injury was felt throughout the sports world, and everybody is hoping he will make a speedy and full recovery. In fantasy however, Dalton, arguably the best backup QB in the NFL, is stepping into an offense that is absolutely loaded with talent, highlighted by WR Amari Cooper, WR CeeDee Lamb, WR Michael Gallup and RB Ezekiel Elliott.
Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt remembers 'God's gift to baseball' originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia Joe Morgan's eye-popping Hall of Fame ledger does not include any saves, but he did earn one in his career. Morgan, who died at 77 on Sunday, spent the 1983 season with the Phillies and helped the club win the National League pennant. In May of that season, Mike Schmidt was in the throes of a hellacious slump.
Watching Monday night's New Orleans Saints-Los Angeles Chargers game, I couldn't help but be impressed by Chargers rookie quarterback Justin Herbert. Herbert threw four touchdown passes, staked to his team an early 17-point lead and drove them down the field for the would-be game-winning field goal, only to watch Michael Badgley's 50-yard kick doink off the right upright as time expired. The Detroit Lions, of course, passed on Herbert with the No. 3 pick in April's draft, and while there was little intelligence connecting them to the Oregon quarterback in the pre-draft process, Herbert's performance Monday made me wonder if he'll be their new Aaron Donald.

Now that Taylor Hall and Alex Pietrangelo both landed in unexpected spots in as NHL free agents, teams and fans must be wondering: who's left? As different as things are right now, with 2020 NHL Free Agency in October, some things haven't changed. Granted, some might be the hockey equivalent of paying way too much for items at Whole Foods, but there are still a few interesting players left in 2020 NHL Free Agency.
