Ducks take big jump up ESPN’s 2023 recruiting rankings after Ashton Cozart addition

Depending on which recruiting site you’re looking at, the rankings are going to appear a little bit different. Regardless of your preference, though, it’s clear that the Oregon Ducks are heading in the right direction.

After getting a bit of a slow start to the 2023 cycle — which was understandable due to the new coaching staff getting settled and creating in-roads with top talent — the Ducks are now carrying a lot of momentum into the summer months.

According to ESPN’s recently updated national recruiting rankings, Oregon made a big jump up the polls. About a month ago, the Ducks ranked No. 22 on the list. Now, after a couple of new offensive additions, Oregon is all the way up to No. 13.

New head coach Dan Lanning led Georgia’s championship defense last year but now focuses on trying to build a similar unit with the Ducks. ESPN 300 CB Martin is a good place to start, as he is a player with good feet and upside. Despite his strong defensive background, Lanning’s first full class at Oregon is defined by promising offensive talent. The Ducks landed big targets for their passing attack in Cozart, who is long, fast and posted a laser-timed 4.45 40 at the Dallas Under Armour camp, and Jurrion Dickey, who had an MVP performance at the UC Report Elite Camp in Oakland this spring. Along with Kyler Kasper, all of them check in at 6-foot-2 or taller and can win contested matchups.

Of course, ESPN is still listing 4-star WR Kyler Kasper as a member of the 2023 class, when in reality he reclassified to 2022 and will join the Ducks this fall, so this top-15 ranking may be slightly generous for Oregon.

Regardless, it’s impossible to deny the fact that the Ducks are picking up steam in the recruiting world and set for a big summer stretch. Already they have some massive visits set for the month of June, with guys like 5-star Richard Young, 5-star Jayden Wayne, 5-star Kadyn Proctor, and 5-star David Hicks all scheduled to be in Eugene over the next 30 days.

There’s no telling when more commitments might come, but the next couple of months look like they could bring more success for the Ducks.
