DREW SILVA: In retrospect, that five-year $115 million contract that Kevin Gausman signed with the Blue Jays this offseason might have been a massive bargain. The 31-year-old right-hander has been absolutely brilliant out of the gate this season for Toronto with 41 strikeouts to 0 walks through 31 and 2/3 innings. His FIT, Fielding Independent Pitching, an ERA-based metric that focuses solely on the events a pitcher has the most control over, currently sits at 0.50. And his actual ERA is sparkling enough at 2.27.

With his seven dominant innings on Sunday May 1 against a dangerous Astros offense, Gausman became only the second pitcher since 1903 to begin a season with five straight starts of no walks and no home runs allowed. The other, Cy Young himself. Gausman finished sixth in the NL Cy Young Award vote last year with the Giants. He might just win the thing outright this year in the American League.
