Draymond Green's Jordan Poole skirmish prompts lecture from Bob Myers

Myers reveals message to Draymond after Poole altercation originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

After Draymond Green struck Jordan Poole during an altercation Wednesday at practice, Warriors general manager Bob Myers had a message for his team’s veteran forward.

“Draymond is one of my favorite players,” Myers said Thursday. “I told him that, but I just said, ‘You’re better than this. Don’t do this. Don’t do this to yourself and put yourself in this position.’

“Still love the person. Don’t love what he did, but still love the guy.”

Myers also said Thursday that Golden State will handle any Green discipline “internally,” and he doesn’t expect the 32-year-old to miss any of the Warriors’ upcoming games.

News of the skirmish first broke Wednesday evening when The Athletic’s Shams Charania and Anthony Slater reported, citing sources, that a “heated interaction” between Green and Poole ended with the former “forcefully” striking his younger teammate, abruptly ending practice.

Green apologized to Poole and the rest of the team Thursday morning and left before practice. Warriors coach Steve Kerr expects Green to return to practice on Saturday, and Myers believes the players will be able to move past the incident.

It wasn’t the first time the pair has been involved in an incident, however; Green and Poole had a verbal altercation on the Warriors’ bench during a Nov. 10 game against the Minnesota Timberwolves last season, though they eventually hashed things out after the game.

This time around, Green will need to put in work to remedy the situation, Myers said.

“[Green is] complicated, but he’s a good person,” Myers continued. “He is a good person. He is. I’ve seen it. I’ve seen a lot of things he’s done. Yesterday was one of them. In this job that I’m in … These are men. He knows what he needs to do.

“He’s got to make amends, and he started with that this morning. I’m confident he’ll do that.”
