Hopefully Thanksgiving went well for American hockey fans as there were no games slated to enjoy.

It’s busy this upcoming week as every team plays at least three games with Calgary, the Islanders, San Jose and Tampa Bay playing four.

There is not a lot to choose scheduling-wise so just play your best lineup in weekly transaction leagues.

Let’s get to it.

He does have an NHL worst minus-23, seven better (or worse) than Christian Dvorak with Montreal and his former Arizona teammate...Congratulations go out to Karel Vejmelka who finally won his first game of the season on Saturday after starting the season at 0-9-1.

BOSTON

The Bruins are still fifth in the Atlantic but are just one point behind Detroit with five games in hand...Charlie McAvoy was injured on Wednesday after he was hit into the boards by Buffalo’s Zemgus Girgensons who received a 10-minute misconduct for his misdeed...Boston’s top line of Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron continue to excel as they have a combined 53 points in 16 games including 21 goals...Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark are sharing the net evenly, at least they did until Wednesday when Ullmark tweaked something and couldn’t get his eighth start, giving Swayman his ninth...Trent Frederic is getting close to returning to action.

He is on a three-game scoring streak and has four goals and 17 points in 18 games...The big free agent signing, goaltender Frederik Andersen continues to shine as he is 11-3-0 with a 1.89 GAA and a .936 save percentage...He has not given Antti Raanta much of a chance as Raanta is 2-0-1 with a 2.16 GAA and a .913 save percentage...Rookie Seth Jarvis passed the nine-game threshold this season and has had a year of his entry-level deal burned. Jarvis saw his four-game points streak end on Wednesday and he has four goals and six points with a plus-five rating in 11 games...Ethan Bear was placed in COVID-19 protocol in San Jose Monday.

The Blue Jackets used Adam Boqvist on the top power play unit with Zach Werenski on Wednesday and it paid off in a goal in a 3-0 win over Winnipeg...The Blue Jackets are hanging tough in the Metropolitan as they are 11-6-0...The biggest reason why is that Elvis Merzlikins has been great with an 8-3-0 record to go with a 2.44 GAA and a .926 save percentage...Oliver Bjorkstrand leads the Blue Jackets in points with 18, while Boone Jenner has nine goals...Max Domi returned to action this week after spending time on the injured reserve list with broken ribs as well as COVID...Vladislav Gavrikov has some fantasy value in traditional pools with two goals and eight assists in 17 game with a plus-13 rating, including a two-goal game against Buffalo Monday...Condolences go out to Patrik Laine whose father passed away this past week. Laine is still out with an oblique strain and will miss another week or two.

The Stars were fortunate to get Miro Heiskanen with the third overall pick in 2017, with Nico Hischier and Nolan Patrick going ahead of him and it really showed this week when he shut down Connor McDavid as it has been the only game this season that McDavid was held pointless...Heiskanen leads the Stars with 14 points in 17 games...Roope Hintz got off to an awful start with only one assist in his first 10 games but he has been on fire ever since with six goals and nine points in his past seven...Jake Oettinger was recalled from the minors 10 days ago and has given the Stars the goaltending they need to compete as he is 3-0-0 with a 1.29 GAA and a .955 save percentage...Tyler Seguin has only five goals and nine points in 17 games.

Toffoli has only four goals in 21 games after scoring 28 last season in 52 contests...Mathieu Perreault required a second eye surgery as his vision wasn’t back to 100 percent after an injury on Oct. 30 and the optimism is good that he will be fine. He has starting skating again...Mike Hoffman (upper body) could be back this week as could Joel Edmundson who has yet to play this season.

The Islanders play three games in four nights as part of their four-game week...Look for Ilya Sorokin and Semyon Varlamov to share the net...The Islanders have been hit hard by injuries and COVID...Brock Nelson is gone two-four weeks with a lower-body injury, while Ryan Pulock is week-to-week with a lower-body injury as well...In addition, Josh Bailey, Ross Johnston, Anders Lee, Adam Pelech, Andy Greene, Kieffer Bellows and Zdeno Chara are on the COVID protocol list...The Islanders have scored only 32 goals in 16 games...Casey Cizikas has only one assist in 15 games...The Islanders opened up their new arena last weekend but with so many people out of the lineup, it was no surprise they dropped a 5-2 decision to Calgary before losing 3-0 to the Maple Leafs on Sunday.

He has nine power play goals...The Rangers are 12-4-3, good for third in the tough Metropolitan...Kaapo Kakko had no points in his first 10 games but is currently on a five-game scoring streak with three goals and three assists.

The Penguins play all three games in Western Canada this week...The Penguins are hanging tough in the Metropolitan despite all the injuries and COVID problems in the early going...The surprise of the season for Pittsburgh has been the offensive production of Evan Rodrigues who has seven goals (second best on the Penguins to Jake Guentzel’s eight) and seven assists in 19 games...Sidney Crosby is having trouble scoring as he has a goal and an assist in seven games...If his manager is getting antsy over his slow start, get in there and make an offer...Bryan Rust scored his second of the season on Wednesday, his first since opening night...Tristan Jarry continued his outstanding play with a 36-save win over Vancouver in a 4-1 contest...Jarry is 9-4-3 with a 2.03 GAA and a .933 save percentage.

The Maple Leafs return home after a West Coast trip to California when they play Colorado Wednesday but are right back on the road in Minnesota and Winnipeg on the weekend...The Maple Leafs have been quite hot of late, going 12-2-0 in the last month and moving solidly into second place in the Atlantic, just two points behind the Panthers who do have a pair of games in hand...David Kampf has been a pleasant surprise this season, teaming up with Ondrej Kase to form a very good third line, but he suffered an undisclosed injury Wednesday and is day-to-day...John Tavares leads the Leafs with nine goals and 18 points, but has only one point more than the other three members of the Fab Four, Auston Matthews, Mitch Marner and William Nylander...Jack Campbell has been sensational thus far as he is 11-4-1 with a 1.68 GAA and a .943 save percentage.

The Canucks are floundering as they are in seventh in the Pacific, only one point up on the expansion Seattle Kraken with the Kraken having a game in hand...Vancouver has allowed 24 power play goals in 20 games, a horrible stat...They are not getting scoring from a lot of players as Brock Boeser has only four goals and eight points in 17 games while Elias Pettersson has three goals and 10 points in 20 contests...Oliver Ekman-Larsson continues to disappoint fantasy managers (unless he is on the other team) with only two goals and four points in 20 games. Ekman-Larsson used to be at the top or near the top of defenseman goal-scoring but that is far from the case this season...Conor Garland has been one of the few bright lights with five goals and 14 points.

The Golden Knights are climbing up the Pacific Division standings as they are 12-8-0 and in third place after starting the season in the basement...They finally got Max Pacioretty back in their lineup on Wednesday after he missed 17 games with a fractured foot. Pacioretty picked up an assist in the win over Nashville and joined Mark Stone who was out 12 games after the first two games. Stone had a goal and an assist Wednesday, his first goal of the season in eight games although he does have seven assists...William Carrier also returned to action Wednesday after he was out the previous six games with a combination of an undisclosed injury and on COVID protocol...Chandler Stephenson continues to excel with 19 points in 20 games.

The Capitals are getting quite a season out of Alex Ovechkin and not always in his conventional way...Ovechkin had 15 goals which is tied for second best in the NHL with Chris Kreider and Andrew Mangiapane, but his 18 assists are an anomaly as he has done it in only 20 games...He had 18 assists last season and it took him 45 games to do it after picking up 19 the year before in 68 games. Ovechkin is third in NHL scoring with 33 points...It was nice to see Nicklas Backstrom back on the ice Wednesday at practice for the first time this season, although he was wearing a non-contact jersey. He has not played due to a lingering hip issue and there is still no timetable for his return...Ilya Samsonov is 7-0-10 with a 2.22 GAA and a .920 save percentage.

The Jets have been getting scoring from Kyle Connor and Pierre-Luc Dubois as they have 12 and 10 respectively but they have only two other players with more than four goals as Nikolaj Ehlers has six and Andrew Copp five...The injured Paul Stastny is the only player at four goals while Mark Scheifele with two and Blake Wheeler with none, have been major disappointments...The Jets hope to have Stastny back in the lineup this week, if not sooner...Nate Schmidt has been a nice addition to the blueline with a goal and 10 assists in 19 games...The Jets have been horrible on the penalty kill, giving up 18 goals in 52 opportunities as they are second worst in the NHL behind only Vancouver.
