If this Twitter thread really was Doug Baldwin's retirement speech, it was an all-timer

The possibility of retirement has been circling over Doug Baldwin for weeks after the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver underwent his third surgery of the offseason.

That speculation went into full gear when the Seahawks cut Baldwin with a failed physical designation last week, ending an eight-year tenure with the team.

Now, it looks like Baldwin has decided to hang up his cleats, if a lengthy Twitter thread he posted Sunday night is any indication.

Doug Baldwin signals retirement with moving Twitter thread

Baldwin composed the Twitter thread as a letter to his younger self, and used personal photos to tell a moving story.

And finally, because “Game of Thrones” is an inescapable vortex of pop culture, Baldwin peaced out with a Jon Snow GIF.

It’s pretty hard to see Baldwin doing this for any reason other than deciding to walk away from the NFL.

The likely end of an impressive Seahawks career

The Seahawks’ 2013 Super Bowl title was built on Pro Bowl performances from players defying draft expectations.

Russell Wilson, the undersized third-round quarterback. Kam Chancellor, the fifth-round safety with agility questions. Richard Sherman, the cornerback who didn’t play cornerback until his fourth year in college.

And then there was Doug Baldwin, the 5-foot-10 undrafted receiver out of Stanford who posted one season in his college career with more than 400 receiving yards. Baldwin would go on to post 6,563 receiving yards, 493 receptions and 49 receiving touchdowns in his eight years with Seattle.

Baldwin earned a ring, two Pro Bowl appearances, a share of a receiving touchdown title and the No. 3 spot on the Seahawks’ all-time receiving yard list despite all 32 teams passing on him in the draft after receiving all of two stars as a high school recruit. As the receiver put it, that’s a hell of a journey.
