Update: Valve has confirmed the main event dates for The International 2017, which will run Monday, August 7 – Saturday, August 12. The event will take place in Seattle this year. There was some discussion from the company earlier this year that they were considering moving the event to outside of the US.
Valve has revealed the dates for The International 2017 open and regional qualifiers. As detailed on the official Dota 2 site, the open qualifiers will run June 22-25, with the regional qualifiers taking place from June 26-29.
The 2017 main event is scheduled for “the first half of August,” with no firm dates confirmed yet. The timing lines up with the 2016 International main event, which also ran from August 8-13.
The International 2016 saw six invited teams, eight qualified teams, and four wildcard teams match up in the tournament. Valve recently made changes to the way regional qualifications work for the upcoming Spring Major event, splitting the Americas region into North America and South America, and the Europe region into separate Europe and CIS regions. Valve has not confirmed if this regional update will be in place for the International 2017 qualifiers.
The next big Dota 2 event on the horizon will be the Boston Major, with group stages starting on December 3. With 16 of the world’s greatest teams competing, there’s sure to be some great Dota 2 action on horizon. Check back on Yahoo Esports for more coverage in the lead-up to the tournament.
