Hall of Famer Dominique Wilkins offers hopeful take on Tatum, Brown pairing originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Count at least one Basketball Hall of Famer among those who believe in the pairing of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

Ahead of Friday's contest between the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks, Abby Chin caught up with Dominique Wilkins, who spent the majority of his career with the Hawks but also played for the C's in 1994-95, for his take on Boston's current tandem of stars.

"When you're a young team, you're trying to grow, you're trying to add different pieces to what you already have, but man, those two guys are explosive," Wilkins said. "They are one of the best tandems in this league."

Forsberg: Could these trends alter Celtics' trade deadline strategy?

Though the Celtics barely have been treading water around .500 for much of the last two seasons -- they are 61-60, including 25-24 in 2021-22 -- Wilkins warned that Boston should continue to look to add pieces around the stars.

"Those two guys are definite cornerstones of the franchise," Wilkins said. "If you get rid of one or the other, you don't really know what you're missing 'til it's gone."

Listening to Wilkins talk, it sounds like he believes one of the pieces who can help the Tatum and Brown pairing thrive is already in Boston: Robert Williams III.

"That young man can bounce," Wilkins said. "He can get up off the floor. He's been an impressive guy for me for a couple of years now. I really like him."
