Dolphins draft target TE Sam LaPorta drafted by Lions

Throughout the pre-draft process, the Miami Dolphins have been linked to a number of tight end prospects with one of their first picks. Iowa’s Sam LaPorta may have been the one mocked to Miami the most, but he won’t be wearing orange and aqua any time soon.

The Detroit Lions selected LaPorta with pick No. 34.

This isn’t the first potential Dolphins target that the Lions have selected early in this draft, as linebacker Jack Campbell and running back Jahmyr Gibbs were the first-round picks.

Miami will have to turn elsewhere for tight end help if they want it through the draft. However, with the very next pick the Las Vegas Raiders selected Notre Dame tight end Michael Mayer.

Georgia’s Darnell Washington is the top option available now, but he may be taken soon in this run.
