Dog hilariously enters high school relay event, wins with ease after wild final sprint

Gracie Laney thought she was going to win her heat in the 4x200 meter relay last weekend in Logan, Utah.

The Logan High School senior was all alone in the final stretch on the track while anchoring her relay team. The win was hers.

What she didn’t account for, however, was a late entry into the race.

A dog, after breaking away from her owners who were sitting on a hill, sprinted down onto the track and quickly claimed the race for herself in hilarious fashion.

“I’d say probably about the 50-meters [mark], I could feel something coming on me, and I thought it was a person. I thought it was the runner,” Laney said, via The Salt Lake Tribune. “And then I kind of realized that it was really small.”

The dog — Holly, who belonged to another student’s family — flew. She closed the gap instantly. Had she not slowed down upon reaching Laney, she could’ve competed for a serious record.

“After watching the video, I thought, ‘Holy cow, that dog is so fast,’ ” Laney said, via The Salt Lake Tribune. “So I thought it was kind of funny I got beat by a dog.”

Laney, however, did leave the meet with one regret.

“I really wish I had gotten a selfie or something with it,” she said, via The Salt Lake Tribune.
