Already shelved by Tommy John surgery, Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager will have arthroscopic surgery on his left hip Tuesday, the team announced Monday.

The surgery will be performed in New York City by Dr. Bryan Kelly, and Seager is expected to resume baseball activities in January, per the team.

Seager was already ruled out for the season after spraining the ulnar collateral ligament in his right (throwing) elbow, requiring Tommy John surgery in May. The team has been optimistic he'll be ready to return early in the 2019 season.

Seager, 24, hit .267 with two home runs and 13 RBIs in 26 games this season. He hit .302 with 48 homers and 149 RBIs over the previous two seasons while earning All-Star nods in both years and NL Rookie of the Year honors in 2016.

The Dodgers have relied on Manny Machado at shortstop since trading five prospects to the Baltimore Orioles for him before the non-waiver trade deadline, though he has also played third base while Justin Turner has missed time.

Machado, who played primarily third base before moving to shortstop this year, is expected to garner a long-term deal approaching $300 when he hits free agency this winter.
