DK Metcalf to step into Batter’s Box for MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

Less than a month after DK Metcalf took his talents to the track, the Seahawks wide receiver will try out another sport.

Metcalf is one of 19 celebrities including Quavo, Steve Aoki and Kane Brown to take part in the 2021 MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game. That’s right, Metcalf will be playing softball.

When asked on Tuesday during the Seahawks Organized Training Activities (OTAs) about his softball game, Metcalf compared his skills to one of baseball’s greatest all-time hitters.

“If I had a player to compare myself to, I’d say Hank Aaron,” Metcalf said with a smile.

The late Hank Aaron is kind of subtle, but you know, very good at his craft. We’ll see when I step in the Batter’s Box during the game.

So, what can Seahawks fans expect from Metcalf in the charity softball game? Well, he hasn’t taken a full swing at the ball in some time. Metcalf said the last time he suited up was when he played tee-ball… over 15 years ago.

Nonetheless, Metcalf is going to get some reps in before the game.

“Oh no, I can’t just show up. I’m going to practice,” Metcalf said. “I’m going to get some practice in.”

The Seahawks phenom will be the only NFL player to take part in the charity softball game. However, he will be joined by C.C. Sabathia, Larry Walker, Hunter Pence, Vinny Castilla and Jennie Finch as athletes expected to participate.

Metcalf’s appearance in the All-Star Game comes on the heels of his debut in USA Track & Field’s Golden Games. The Seahawks star put his speed to the test in the 100-meter dash in May recording a time of 10.37.

Despite finishing last in the nine-man heat and 15th overall in the field of 17, Metcalf received a lot of praise and support from his Seahawks.

“They really just congratulated me and was behind me 100 percent," he said. "My teammates, coaches, I know I talked to Pete at least once a week, him and Shane leading up to the event, Mo Kelly, EK, Bobby all came down and supported me at the meet. I had a lot of support behind me with my teammates.”

Before his shifting his complete focus to football and the 2021-22 NFL Season, we’ll see how Metcalf’s football skills translate to the baseball diamond. The 2021 MLB All-Star Celebrity Softball Game takes place Sunday, July 11 at Coors Field.
