How did Rutgers losing on Sunday night affect the Scarlet Knights in the NET Rankings?

Any way you shake it, Sunday night’s loss to Northwestern was bad news for Rutgers basketball in terms of their candidacy for the NCAA Tournament. It continues a tough stretch of results as the Scarlet Knights continue a fall in the rankings.

Rutgers is sliding, not surprisingly, in the KenPom Rankings as they head to the Big Ten Tournament. It now makes this week’s Big Ten Tournament important for Rutgers.

The Scarlet Knights are now 18-13 (10-10) as they close out the regular season.

Win at least one game and the Scarlet Knights will book a ticket to the NCAA Tournament for a third straight season. Lose and they are a bubble team and might face the dreaded ‘First Four.’

Rutgers is now at No. 42 in the KenPom Rankings, an important analytic for NCAA Tournament inclusion and seeding. The rankings were updated to reflect Sunday’s games.

Last week, Rutgers was No. 37 in the KenPom rankings.

They do boast a solid 5-6 record against Quad 1 teams.

Rutgers has a solid resume but their close to the season leads to worries that other programs are trending in the right direction. The Scarlet Knights have lost three of their last four games as they limp into Thursday’s Big Ten Tournament game against Michigan.
