Diamond Hogs get commitment from elite in-state pitcher

Steele Eaves didn’t want to be left out in the wind.

The pitcher from Lonoke High in central Arkansas had already seen two of his high-school baseball teammates commit to be Razorbacks. So when Arkansas offered him Monday, Eaves was ready.

The right-hander is part of the Class of 2024 along with fellow Lonoke pitchers Tripp Sullivan, a lefty, and Cole Spears, a righty who also can play outfield.

Lonoke provided the Arkansas program with one of the best players of the 2010s in third baseman Casey Martin. Martin spent three seasons with the Diamond Hogs from 2018-2020 before being drafted in the third round by the Philadelphia Phillies.

Eaves went 7-2 with 1.50 earned-run average and 130 strikeouts with seven walks last year.
