Diamond Heels swing into the ACC semifinals after dominating UVA

The North Carolina Tar Heels are a step closer to being back-to-back Atlantic Coast Conference champions after a dominating performance Thursday afternoon.

UNC took on UVA, two days after a convincing 11-5 victory over Georgia Tech. Keeping with the same recipe, the Tar Heels were able to produce a similar dish of swings, beating the Cavaliers 10 to 2.

Right-hand pitcher Jake Knapp started for UNC and was dealing right away. The junior pitched 5.2 innings, allowing only five hits with two runs scored while on the mound.

On the other hand, UVA’s bullpen struggled, utilizing six different pitchers in an effort to stop the on pour from the Tar Heels. UNC was able to muster up three runs in the 4th, 7th and 8th inning, including a bases-clearing double by catcher Tomas Frick.

UNC was without Vance Honeycutt for the sixth-straight game.

Once again the Tar Heels displayed their ability to flip the switch come postseason with this win, marking their sixth-straight ACC tournament win.

Now winners of pool B, the Diamond Heels will have their eyes on the winner of pool C for a Saturday meeting, where the winning team will move on to play in the championship Sunday.
