Devils’ Tyler Toffoli named NHL’s First Star of the Week
The Devils acquired center Tyler Toffoli in a trade with the Calgary Flames this offseason, and it hasn’t taken him long to make a big impact with his new team.
Toffoli was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week for the stretch ending Oct. 29 on Monday afternoon after a tremendous four-game stretch of hockey.
The 31-year-old made his return to Montreal, where he spent one season of his 12-year career. He was all over the ice all night long and made a huge impact on the offensive end, recording his first hat trick in the 5-2 win.
Toffoli responded a night later by recording three more points (two goals, one assist) in New Jersey’s loss to the Capitals. It marked just the second time in his career that he’d recorded back-to-back three point performances.
The center went on to finish the week with a total of seven points (six goals, one assist) to help the Devils go 3-1-0 over the four-game stretch.
Toffoli enters this week fifth in the league with seven goals on the season, which is a new franchise record for the most through the first eight games with the team. Three of those tallies have come via the power play, which currently sits atop the leaderboards in hockey.
He’ll look to continue his strong start to the season when the Devils open the month of November on the road against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday, Nov. 2.
